"Are you kidding me?"
Ducking her head under the wing, Tori glanced back at Fox, an unbelieving look in her eye. "You guys were battling Andross, and you thought the stories wouldn't get that far?" She gave a laugh, eyes twinkling in amusement, "You guys were heroes, back when heroes still made the news; of course your stories traveled far."
She smiled, then pushed off of where she was leaning against the wing. With a sort of bounce to her step, she spun, moving around the back half of the Arwing. Her fingers ran over the smooth metal. "We weren't allowed to watch much television at my house, but I always snuck a glance at the news. They would occasionally have segments on the war going on in the Lylat system."
She paused at the tail, moving around it so she was on the other side. The sound of her boots clicking gave away her walking towards him.
Tori giggle-snorted, "God, I was just a kid. Has it really been that long? I was just ten when you... Oh Lord, it has been that long." She came around the nose, leaning against the Arwing and looking at Fox's back. The young woman bit her lip. "She's beautiful, Fox. Especially with all the things she's seen."

Fox couldn't help but smile, thinking about those days. It had been a long, long time-- far too long-- since someone had brought them up, or called him a hero. He was far from a hero now, more villain then anything else, but it was nice to know someone still thought of him that way, even if it was only one someone.
But, perhaps, the one someone being Tori was more then enough.
Of course, he didn't bring up the fact that he technically hadn't been a hero; he had been a mercenary, his team simply commandos-for-hire. Originally, he had held a grudge against Andross for killing both of his parents, but the job had still payed, in the end, and he wouldn't have gone on any of his subsequent adventures if there hadn't been a monetary reward dangling in front of him like a carrot on a fishing pole (or, in his case, a chicken on a fishing pole). That subject would just ruin Tori's good mood; she had obviously looked up to him and his team.
Just one more reason to smile.
The anthro turned to look at her, grinning and nodding. "Thanking you," he said. "Am glad you are liking her. Would be offering you ride now, but... she is not exactly in best repair. And is a bit conspicuous. Not to be mentioning damage she would cause to ceiling." He chuckled, one ear drooping while the other remained pricked.

Tori smiled lightly, running her fingertips over the Star Fox symbol one last time before turning to him. "I appreciate the thought, Fox," she murmured, eyes showing how grateful she was to have even been offered a chance to ride. Even if the Arwing was out of repair, it was still...
Waitaminute.
Green eyes flashing, Tori turned from Fox to begin looking - actually looking - the ship over. She made mental notes every chance she got. She had connections; Rose had connections. Plenty of people in the gang could either repair, or knew someone who could repair. All she had to do was find the right person, and Fox's Arwing would be taken care of.
This... This would be how she paid him back, for everything he had done for her. He may have thought that he owed her a lot, but in actuality... She owed him more than he would ever know; than he could ever know.
He was her friend, her only friend. He knew how to act around her; he knew to be careful when touching her. He had saved her, came to her rescue when no one else was around. To Fox, those may have been trivial things, but to Tori, they meant the world.

Okay, Fox's interest had been piqued.
He watched as Tori moved around the Arwing, both ears now pricked forwards, his for once undivided attention focused on her. Her sudden renewed interest in looking the ship over had him... curious, and not to mention a bit wary. Not that she would do anything bad, but... What was she doing?
The anthro tilted his head to the side like a confused puppy, one ear drooping slightly as he kept his eyes focused on her. Or, as focused on her as they could be when she was mostly hidden by the metal wings of his ship. She didn't normally act like this.
"Tori?" he asked, rather quizzically.
((I'm sorry for the crap post. ;-; ))

Tori heard Fox call her name, but was too busy - at the moment - to stop and answer. Instead, she continued to look around, at, and even (briefly) inside the ship. Her eyes sparkled with excitement. Yes, it was truly obtainable to have her repaired and able to fly without costing her too much. Oh, it would be expensive, but... It would make Fox happy.
Once she had a rough estimate, Tori patted the side of the Arwing. She slid under the wing, appearing beside Fox again; her smile was wide and warm. "Don't worry, Foxxy," she said simply, "Tori's got you covered."
This would be perfect. She had seen how his eyes had lit up upon seeing the Arwing; she had noticed the way he had gently touched the Star Fox symbol. He truly loved this machine - not that Tori could blame him. To be able to give him back something that he loved that much, especially after all the hardships he had been through lately...
It was perfect.

Fox couldn't help but chuckle warmly, looking at her. He had a feeling whatever she was going to do would-- in his mind-- wrack up his debts to her even further, but... he wouldn't say that out loud. She seemed happy. And he liked seeing her happy.
"Thinking it is best if I'm not asking, then," he said, winking playfully. "Not wanting to ruin your fun."
The anthro gently touched his claws to the nose of his Arwing one last time, giving it a wishful look. He'd never say it out loud, especially not in front of Tori, because he didn't want her to feel sorry for him, but he missed flying. He missed his old career. If the jobs hadn't dried up... if they hadn't dried up, he would still be saving the galaxy. He wouldn't be missing three fifths of his team. He wouldn't be barely scraping by like he was now.
And he wouldn't have to wish he could fly again.
But the saddest part, to him? He didn't even know where Slippy and Peppy had gotten to. Slippy had just... vanished one day, after arriving in the Mushroom Kingdom. Peppy had stayed behind, and god knows how that was treating him. Fox couldn't even call him and see what was going on.
The damn scouters didn't work that far. Not any more.
Fox sighed, but his grin returned as he looked back over to Tori, just as his stomach gave a rumble. He snorted. "Not usually stopping for food in middle of work, but... thinking it is lunch time, bro."

She knew he knew she was up to something, but Tori really didn't mind. Odds were he hadn't figured out what she was up to, and she just knew that he was going to love this gift. It was the least she could do for him, really, but even Tori knew how much that Arwing meant to him. If she could get it flying again...
Just the very thought of his happiness made her smile.
But the woman was distracted from her thinking when Fox spoke up. He said something about lunch, and Tori nodded. "It is past noon, actually. I'm surprised you haven't eaten yet. Then again, you are... well, you." She smiled lightly, then gave the Arwing one last look.
Gently, she touched the Star Fox symbol yet again - apparently her favorite part of the entire plane - then hurried over to his side. Her arm looped through his, tugging him close to her side. "Let's go grab some lunch, huh?Got any particular place you wanna head to, or is anywhere good?"

At the thought of food, Fox's tail couldn't help but wag, and he couldn't have stopped it if he'd wanted to. It had taken him to now to realize it, but he was practically starving. Most likely because...
"Did not eat breakfast, either," he admitted nervously, rubbing the back of his head with his right hand. "Had some milk," from the carton, something he'd never tell her, "but that is being it."
She walked over, then, looping her arm through his, and the anthro gave her a warm smile. "Is not mattering, bro. Wherever is being good for you." He then grinned, chuckling. "Promising I will try not to scare locals."

Tori's eyes narrowed when she realized he had not eaten breakfast. "Fox," she chided, drawing out his name in almost as sing-song fashion. "You need to learn to eat. Drinking milk isn't going to keep you going for long." She shook her head, even as she started towards the door.
It was amusing to her how pitiful Fox was; especially considering he was adorable, as well. But she couldn't feel sorry for him at the moment. He was living at her house, where she always had enough food. He should have grabbed an apple or leftovers or... something. God knows the kids always left something out before they went to school.
Gently, Tori let her head lean against his shoulder, though it was only there a moment before she removed it. She knew it would be uncomfortable, since they were walking, but she also didn't want anything...
Was it bad she didn't know how to finish that sentence?
"I know a place nearby. Halfway decent." She told him, "And you won't have to worry about scaring the locals. We're not leaving this district. So as long as you don't start... being too over-whelmingly Fox, we'll be okay, bro."
Bro.
She hated that term. But not because of the affection it held, or any of the reasons people might think. She hated it because she had to use it to mask her true feelings. But that was all she could do at the moment; just pretend to only care so much for him. She had to do it for his sake. No matter how much it bruised her heart.
