Espeon didn't notice the attention. Well, not at first. First, she moved around, checking on Stunky, the only Shiny out of the bunch, before moving the to the baby Lugia. She licked the ledgendary's forehead; the young Pokemon "giggled." Then, she turned to look at Glailie - and spotted Jolt.
It took her a moment to realize that the Jolteon was staring back at her, and by then she was "grinning." Her tail swished happily, and she gave the electric Eeveelution a wink, before moving onto Bastiodon.
"They'll be here with our food soon," Orange said, returning to the table from...wherever she had been.

Jolt almost fell over, but Scar was right there. He cocked his head to the side, then noticed what Jolt was staring at. The Pikachu shook his head, then went to take his place on Cyan's lap until the food came.
"Alright," Cyan answered. "Thanks again."
Jolt continued looking from a distance. He could tell she was at least partly into him. But he was scared to go over there. Maybe once he had a little food in him, he'd get the guts.

"Hey, it's no problem," Orange waved her hand as two of the nurses approached, carrying a few trays of food. Realizing that one of them was having a bit of trouble with the tray, she walked over and took some of the plates from her; the largest one she knew belonged to Bastiodon, so she took that one, too.
"Here you go," she called to Cyan and the Pokemon, kneeling to place the food at Bastiodon's level. He gave her as much of a smile as he could manage, then began to woff it down. Orange placed the other plate she was carrying off to the side, for one of Cyan's Pokemon, and then wiated until all the food had been placed out.
She grabbed her sandwich off her plate, tearing a bite off with her fingers. "So. You got a real name, or is it just Cyan?" She couldn't remember if he'd told her or not.
Espeon knew now that Jolt was watching her, and couldn't help but grin. Beside her, Stunky also noticed, and gave her friend a wink, though she also shook her head. If Espeon wanted someone to chase her tail, then she could have at it. She just wanted to eat.

"I was an orphan, my name changed as I changed homes. Cyan is my only real name," he answered, eating.
Scar took the nearest bowl, jumping out of Cyan's lap to get there. The others each began to scarf down their own food. Jolt ate about half of his; he didn't eat much, then pushed his bowl to Scar, who left his own plate to greedily gobble down what was given to him.
Jolt, meanwhile, slowly padded over to Espy.

Orange nodded her head once or twice, "I know the orphan story. My parents were murdered when I was six. Luckily, my parents had connections, and my sister and I were quickly adopted. But I suppose we all have our own little tweaks in our story that make us who we are."
Espeon noticed Jolt walking over to her, and smiled slyly as she ate her food. She nibbled down a few bites, then straightened, so she could look Jolt in the eye. Her ears pressed against the back of her skull, and she padded over to him, meeting him in the middle.

His little tuft of fur wagged as she approached him. Inside, he was happy, and it showed on the outside. He looked her square in the eyes, his own eyes shining.
"Yeah. That's true. I was just...bounced around. Really don't know who I am, aside from who I've made myself. But, I ain't complainin'. I mean, it's hard, yeah. But I like the path I chose."

Espeon wagged her own tail in response. She could tell how excited that Jolt was that she was paying him some attention, instead of ignoring him like some other females might be doing. So she smiled and reached forwards, nudging his forehead with hers.
Orange nodded, tearing off another bite of her sandwich. She popped it into her mouth, then leaned against her chair. "I think, so long as we are on the path we choose to be on, all our origins are good for at that point is getting us to where we are today." She nodded once.

He nudged her forehead in return, loving this. It was true; no other female ever paid him this kind of attention. Then again, the only females he ever got close to were battle opponents. Cyan didn't have any friends, after all.
Scar, meanwhile, had emptied Jolt's bowl, and scarfed down the rest of his. Flare ate as much as he could, then relaxed against Cyan's leg. Buzzkill left some in his bowl, then walked over and got what Flare couldn't finish. He set both aside for Jolt, when he got done.
He nodded, finishing his sandwich. "Makes perfect sense."

Orange grinned, "Of course it does. I said it. Now," she straightened, her voice becoming very serious. Her green eyes flickered over to where their Pokemon seemed to be getting along, and then back to Cyan, "I need you to be open with me about this next question, because this will determine whether or not you're worth employing. And please don't take that the wrong way." She gave him a sincere look, showing she meant no harm.
"When it comes to Pokemon battling, and the gambling that goes on there... About how much do you make?"
Espy gave a quiet purr, and rubbed her cheek against Jolt's. She was starting to warm up to this Jolteon, even if he was with a trainer that was rough around the edges. Then again, the trainer also seemed to be partially sweet, at least to Orange. And sense Pokemon and Trainers seemed to compliment each other...
She sat in front of him.

He pulled out the sack he'd kept his prize money in. It wasn't very large, nor did it make a very loud jingling sound when he dropped it on the table. "Three hundred coins. Just enough to feed everyone, maybe get a room for the night. Wouldn't have even been enough to bet on myself next fight. And tonight was a good night." He put the sack back on his belt.
"Though with tonight taken care of, I can sleep somewhere nice, and bet on my match tomorrow."
Jolt let out a similar sound, sitting down as well. His large ears flicked happily. He licked her nose.

That was all Orange needed to hear.
The young woman reached up, tucking a strand of hair behid her ear, and said, "That's not enough. Well, perhaps it might be for a life of day-to-day getting by, but that's not the life a Pokemon Trainer is supposed to have. Luckily for you, my boss is recruiting, and I think you're going to fit in nicely there. Dad prefers trainers who have a bond with their Pokemon. A strong bond."
She leaned back, tilting her head up just slightly, so she could look at him, "The job pays well, I can promise you that. Oh, and don't worry about any of that 'throwing the fight' bullshit; he doesn't believe in that." That was always a major concern of some of her employees.
The psychic Pokemon made an almost giggling-like sound, reaching up to paw at her nose. Her tail swished about happily behind her, though not before swatting him lightly, as if playfully smacking him.

He didn't have to think on that very long. "Sounds like a sweet deal. I mean, Pokemon are my life, yes, but...well..." He patted the sack. "That saying goes a little more literal than I like. And not having to throw any fights is also a plus" Buzz growled at the term 'throw a fight,' showing his sheer disapproval of that.
Jolt pawed her back, then sort of playfully tugged on her ear. For once, he found fun that wasn't battle related.

Nodding over to the Electabuzz, Orange added, "Yeah, I'm with your Electabuzz. Throwing fights just aren't very sportsman-like. Plus, it takes the fun out of the battling. And Pokemon truly hate it." She sighed, shaking her head, "But you don't have to worry about that. All you'll be concerned with, at the moment, is training your Pokemon up and running patrols in a few areas. Just to make sure no one's trying to run in on our turf."
She seemed to relax then, as if being serious just wasn't her thing. And, really, it wasn't. She absolutely hated to be a hundred percent serious, even while doing business. Orange offered out her hand, "So do we have a deal, Cyan?"
Espeon let out a squeak as he pulled her ear, though the look in her eye showed she was enjoying it. The little Pokemon reached over, pawing at his maw before reachign in for a sneak attack. She rubbed the top of her head against his chin, purring gently.

Electabuzz made a grunt of approval, rocking Flare to sleep in his arms as he sat down. Cyan shook Orange's hand. "We got a deal."
Jolteon yelped playfully, pawing back at her. He let go of her ear, lifting his head. It was nice; warm, comfortable. Something he could really get used to.

Orange nodded her head. "Great." She beamed, her eyes sparkling with relief and delight. Her posture relaxed, and she leaned back in her chair. "And since we're working together, I guess I should tell you my name, huh? Yeah, I guess that would be polite." She paused, as if considering the notion, then shook her head.
"Never mind. Name's Alexandra Wolfblood. But most people just call me Ali." She beamed at him.
Espeon nuzzled into his chin, rubbing her scent all over him. It had been far too long since she had found a fellow Eeveelution. Especially one that actually wanted something to do with her, and didn't sneer because she belonged to one of the best trainers out there. Nice. She sent to Jolteon, her psychic abilities allowing her to speak without opening her maw.
