Alex leaned against the old building, surveying the crowds as they passed. It was always an interesting thing to do, watch these humans as they went along with their little lives. And it was surprising at how often they would turn on each other. Countless amounts of violence over pretty much nothing were common these days, and it always saddened Alex, considering how things used to be.
"They just can't get along can they? And they just drag everyone else into it," he commented bitterly. Kicking a beer bottle out of the gutter, he began to walk along the sidewalk, keeping a lookout still.
Countless homeless people sat by the edge of the road. No one smiled. People pushed and shoved by each other, not caring who got hurt. Tired of this, Alex stepped under an archway. Looking up, he was surprised to see he had stopped under one of the new orphanages that had been put up by the don. Curious, he walked up the steps and peered inside.

"So, this is the orphanage?"
"Yes. Rather impressive, I might add. Three stories, running water... The works. I'm sure that the children will be very happy here, until we can get them into good homes."
Voices, one male and the other female, drifted through the empty orphanage as the only two visitors (at the moment, anyways) made their way through the newly constructed building. Their job today was to look through and make sure that everything had been built exactly as Mewtwo had planned and sketched down. At the moment, it seemed as if his orders had been followed to the letter, but the both of them knew how one little screw up could ruin it all.
Beside the psychic Pokemon, a redheaded female carried a clipboard, glancing down at it every so often. When they reached the front of the room, however, she simply put the clipboard down on a table, and scooted so she could sit on the edge of the table. Her legs began to swing back and forth as she reguarded her boss and adopted father.
"I think it was a good investment, Twoie." She said, reaching up to brush a curl out of her eyes. The smile on her face was warm, especially when her beloved Espeon rubbed against her leg. "Even Espy thinks so, and you know how picky she is."
"Yes," Mewtwo nodded, glancing down at his fellow psychic Pokemon. His eyes were gentle with satisfaction, "If Espeon believes that this place shall do, then who I am to doubt her?"
"Blar you and that 'Pokemon Supremecy' thing."

Alex was surprised to see the don himself walking around inside with a young woman. Then again, this was his orphanage. Still, it was nice to see that the owner was making sure that everything would be in order for the kids when it opened. <Then again, he isn't a human. That's ought to be a good part of the reason why he understands these suffering kids,> he sighed.
Alex had to chuckle at the woman's last comment. "It's the goddamn truth," he quietly smiled to himself. "Them humans don't know what the hell they're doing half the time, and don't realize the consequences of their actions until it's far too late. And at the last second, they save themselves, but lose a lot in the effort. They'll never learn." Still chuckling to himself, Alex turned around and looked back down to the street.
And promptly slipped on the wet pavement.
Banging his head on the door, Alex cursed quite loudly. Rubbing the back of his head, he collected himself and stood up. "So much for not getting noticed," he muttered to himself

As soon as the sound of a body hitting the floor cracked through the silence, both human and Pokemon were up. Mewtwo's entire body began to glow purple, the brightly colored aura surrounding him as he lifted into the air. His SIC took those two important steps forwards, so she was in front of the don, protecting him. Her Espeon moved to stand by her ankles.
"State your reason for spying, or you might not have a tomorrow."
Ali's voice was clipped by her surprise, and anger. She didn't like people getting that close to the pair of them, especially Mewtwo, without either noticing. Especially since Mewtwo was psychic; he should have sensed the man approaching.
"Careful, Alexandra," Mewtwo warned, his tail giving a flick. "Something is off about this one. I can sense power, and age... Something that I have only sensed once or twice."
"Oh?"
"One of which is myself."
"Ah... crap. Thanks, Twoie. 'Preciate it."

Alex could only stare conteptuously at the woman's strong words. "I'd tone down on the threats if I were you, young lady," he snickered. "Silly humans... The more important you become, the more cautious and prickly you all become..." Still chuckling, he let his true form flash for a second, but only to her eyes. <Maybe that'll teach her a lesson in humility,> Alex laughed.
"Either way, I'm not here to harm either of you... Just passing by, and I came across this place. And it's nice that one of my kind is trying to look out for you pathetic humans," he commented disdainfully. "It's too bad that not enough of your kind appreciate it, although I do know the children who come through here will."
Unlocking the door mentally, Alex opened the door and asked, motioning with his hand, "May I?

As soon as she saw the form of Latios flash before her eyes, Ali let out a choked noise. She took a step back, though not retreating behind Mewtwo. She knew better than to perform such an act. That would leave Mewtwo without a "guard," though she knew he didn't need one. She was just there for show.
At the word "pathetic," Ali felt her entire form bristle. She let out a low noise, motioning with her hand. Espeon began to weave between her mistress's ankles, growling out a warning. Her ears pinned back; the jewel on her forehead glowed brightly.
"Alexandra."
Both Ali and Espy stopped what they were doing, though the former turned her head to look at Mewtwo. There was a pleading look in her eyes, "But Daddy!" She whined, sounding very much like a child. She poked her bottom lip out, though her pouting quickly disappeared into laughter, "Yes, father, I'll be good."
Mewtwo nodded his head, though there was no denying the amusement as it played through his eyes. He lowered himself so he was standing beside Ali; his hand rested on her shoulder. "As the don of the Saffron Mafia, I suggest you watch your tone when talking to my second. Other than that, yes. You are welcomed to look inside."

Alex snickered a little at the woman's reaction, but stopped when Mewtwo spoke. Nodding respectfully, he commented, "I apologize, sometimes I... get a little carried away. You'd think I wouldd have solved that flaw of mine by now... Ah well." To the woman, he winked, "Hope I didn't scare you too much."
Alex opened the door and walked into the building, shutting it behind him. Taking a quick glance over, he smiled. "You have outdone yourself for the children; this place looks marvelous," he commented happily. "It's evident you care for their wellbeing, with you personally looking over the building."
Alex crouched down to acknowledge Espeon. <Hello there,> he said privately. <Don't you worry, I'm not here to harm you or your master. Is she treating you well?

Mewtwo did not bristle with pride at the praise he received, as so many others would have done. Instead, he merely nodded, clasping his hands behind his back as he followed the boy inside the orphanage. "I have seen too many children left alone because of this blasted stalemate. I do not want to see anymore of that."
"Nor does he want to adopt anymore. We were enough of a handful as it was." Ali put in, reaching over so she could put both hands on Mewtwo's shoulder and reach up to whisper in his ear. The Pokemon nodded.
Espeon glanced over at Alex, sniffing disdainfully. Her ears pressed against her skull, an obvious sign she was uncomfortable with this private conversation. <She is treating me very well, thank you. Much better than you are treating her, anyways.>

Alex had to smile at the quick and eloquent rebuff. <Touche,> he laughed. <I'll keep that in mind when I'm talking to her.> Still grinning at the witty retort, he stood back up to face Mewtwo and the woman.
Alex nodded at Mewtwo's words. "Just walking outside these days, you see too many of them stuck on the street..." he sighed. "You'd think your average civilian would care, but oh no, let's not care about others. Let's just leave them all in the gutter. Let's just go and ignore it. Let's just worry about my piddly little life. The only thing to do is look after me. Me, me, me, me!"
Alex had to stop for a moment, closing his eyes and breathing in and out slowly. "Please excuse me, I... I get like that sometimes..." he said shakily. "Familiarity breeds contempt, and sadly I've had a little too much familiarity..."

Espeon nodded her head once at the Latios-disguised-as-a-human, then padded over to Ali's legs. She gave a soft little purring noise, rubbing her head her trainer's calves. This human may have been her trainer, but they were equals; the both of them knew that. There was no master, no slave, in this relationship.
Ali bent down, stroking her Pokemon's head. Espeon took this oppertunity to touch her forehead to her trainer's. The gem on her forehead glowed a bright purple, and the woman gave a shudder.
"Espeon, do try to keep all psychic conversations to a minimum, please." Mewtwo commented, glancing back at the fox-cat Pokemon. Espeon backed off quietly; she knew that he could hear her conversation, but she wasn't trying to hide it from him. Just...from the other Pokemon.
"Oh, and you're so important that you can get away with psychic conversations. Got it, daddy."
Mewtwo shook his head, and that was when Alex started to speak. He turned to glance at the human male, frowing slightly when he began to rant. But then he quickly apologized. Mewtwo nodded once.
"It is understandable. This world has been going to hell for the longest time. Since before my birth. And now we have finally made it there..." He reached over, to the back of the couch in the front room, and ran his fingers over it. "I have seen so much of this world. I have seen hatred, and I have seen fear. I have seen the pain and betrayal those around you can cause. Contempt is something I am used to feeling. And yet...
"And yet, I have seen the heart of a child. I have seen what good the world can produce, and in what form it can be given." He glanced back at Ali, and her sister's image flashed through his mind. The two were always together in his thoughts, "Children still deserve some form of innocence, but this is the most I can give them. Hopefully, it will be a start."

Alex nodded, but sighed. Not because Mewtwo wasn't right, but because he really didn't realize how bad things had gotten. "You are correct... I mean, children are the future. If you want change, you have to start with them," Alex started. "And a good start is probably the best thing one can do for these kids in this time."
"But you don't understand something else. You've seen how bad things have gotten? If you'd been around as long as I have, you'd be just as bitter. I remember the years when people didn't even fight wars! They lived in harmony with the land, they didn't take more than they needed, and most importantly they cared about each other. Not just their spouses, or their close relatives; they cared about every other person. Life was precious..."
"But that was ages ago, long before anyone here was born. And as the years went by, the system broke down. Things have gotten especially worse in recent years, but... things haven't been normal for a long, long time..." Alex concluded sadly. He turned away to stare out the window down onto the street below. "And I honestly still wonder if things can ever change..."

"Life was precious..."
"Don't cry, Mewtwo... Be happy, because you're alive... And Life is precious."
Amber's words echoed in Mewtwo's ears, brought on by the words of the human before him. He closed his eyes momentarily, feeling the waves of sorrow and pain returning. Amber, his first friend, had told him those exact words as she faded from this world, back to the afterlife she called heaven.
"Life is still precious." Mewtwo murmured, turning his head to glance at Alex. "There are still those out there that care for others. They are the ones still willing to risk everything they have for people they don't even know. And, though these are a rare few, they are still there... And we just have to wait for them."
He turned from the boy to walk through the room, mentally straightening whatever was out of place. Even if a picture was tilted just a few degrees, he would let his mental powers straighten it. This place had to be perfect for the orphans.
Ali watched her father moving through the room, a worried look on her face. She could feel the hurt rolling off of him, even as he tried to contain it. Amber was a touchy subject with Mewtwo, so touchy even the twins rarely brought her up. He had told them about her once or twice, in a story about his past, but that was all. Still, she knew what the little girl had meant to Mewtwo.
"Life is precious." She repeated, gently stroking Espeon's back. Mewtwo turned to look at her, his purple eyes roaming her face. She nodded once, "And as long as there are one or two who remember that, they can change the world."
"For every one, two rise from the ashes." Mewtwo turned to Alex, smiling his same, smug smile.

Alex had to crack a smile at that. "Optimism, something I haven't seen in a while..." he chuckled mentally. <Maybe I should try it out sometime... Otherwise I'm gonna turn into a bitter fool... Then again, when it doesn't come naturally, it's hard to see things from that perspective, isn't it?> he added mentally.
"True enough," Alex admitted. "Good multiplies when allowed to grow. And I know that this place will serve to do just that... Because it will be a beacon in a sea of misery and despair. And that's why it's a good thing you're doing this; no one else is."
Alex turned away from the window to face the two of them. "It's a good thing someone like you are in charge. No offence," he directed to the woman. "But I doubt your typical human mafia leader would be interested in improving the lives of the children. Although I'm sure you'd make the right decision too."

"Uh, offense taken."
Ali turned from Espeon, so she could look at their 'guest.' Her mossy green eyes narrowed; heat flashed behind a cold, cold gaze. Even when Mewtwo tilted his head ever so slightly, a sign to tell her enough was enough, the young human ignored him. Instead, she held up four fingers and, using her other hand, gripped her pointer finger.
"Let's review the facts, shall we? We have four," she displayed the four fingers again, "mafia dons. One is Mewtwo," she pushed her pointer finger down, "A second is DeDeDe," her pinky, "third, Bowser," her ring finger; her middle finger stood straight in the air. "And four, Ganondorf. Now, none of those are humans. I don't even know what the fuck Ganondorf' is. But none of them are humans. So please, keep your racist comments to yourself before I take the closest item on hand and shove it down your throat."
With that said, Ali put her middle finger away, and turned back to Espeon. The psychic cat-fox was shaking her head, though her shoulders trembled with laughter. There was no doubt Espy loved her human. Even if Mewtwo was three seconds from facepalming.

Alex stood frozen for a couple of seconds, just staring at Alexandra. The faint smile that had been on his face was stuck too. The absolute shock that such an insult would come from her was plain. In fact, had not Mewtwo been their, the girl would probably be missing a jugular right about now.
Slowly, the window ledge where Alex had been leaning on cracked, and after a few more seconds it completely disintigrated. The smile was gone. So was the pleasantness. And so was the human form. Alex hovered in front of the two in his true form. His eyes had completely glazed over with a blue sheen, and he moved a few inches closer to her and Mewtwo.
<You don't know anything, you know that?> Alex said quietly, but with a steel tone. <For one, with the exception of Bowser, those groups are made up almost entirely of humans. But I'm not going to even discuss that. Instead, I have a far better idea. You're going to come to terms with what I'm saying by seeing what I mean.>
The orphanage was gone. Or so it looked like it. Instead, they were all now floating above a field. <A thousand or so years ago. Take a look around. See any fighting, war? No. That's because humans weren't like that yet,> he commented. He nodded in the direction of a little village, where people could be seen milling around. Wild Pokemon ran rampant.
<Harmony. Something that was perfect, shouldn't have been touched. But oh no, this couldn't last, could it?> Alex said seethingly. The vision changed. No longer was there a pastureside. Instead, there was a bustling town in its place. <Five hundred years ago. I was here again. Why, I can't remember. But I remember what happened.>
The background was moving, almost as if they were walking around. A corner was turned, and right in front a man was attempting to rape a woman. With a shout of "Hey!" from what sounded like Alex, it rushed forwards and the man was wrestled off the woman. He looked up in horror and quickly scrambled away. When it turned around, the woman was standing there. "Are you okay?" Alex's voice asked. "Disgusting animal, get away from me!" she shrieked, turning around and running off.
<Disgusting animal... Within a few centuries, we were already being called filthy. And this is only the halfway point,> he said angrily. The scene changed again. The background was a grimy basement, and cages surrounded them, containing obviously malnutritioned Pokemon. <Three hundred years ago. They didn't care about them any more,> Alex spat. Sounds like someone walking down stairs could be heard. A girl's voice could be heard from the side saying, "Let's get out of here!" A girl in her early teens urgently hurried out with Alex following close behind.
It changed again. <A hundred and fifty years ago, and Pokeballs had just been invented,> Alex spat. In the background, people were running eagerly around, using them to catch Pokemon scurrying away into the undergrowth. <They didn't have a chance. None of them were prepared for these things. So many were caught...>
The background changed for the last time. <Fourty years ago...> Alex didn't finish the sentence. He was running along a road with the same girl from the older memory. "You think.. we lost 'em?" she panted. "I... don't know..." Alex panted back. Suddenly, from the trees to their left a whole slew of people and Pokemon burst forward. With a cry, the girl was knocked over, and Alex stumbled backwards. "Run!" she sobbed. "Alice!" he screamed. But they were advancing on him, and he turned around, changing form and flying away as fast as he could, sobbing.
The last memory faded away and the orphanage was back. Alex said nothing for a moment, overcome with the emotion from the memory. <Don't you ever call me racist. If there's one thing I am, it's fair. And after this many years, I can safely judge the human race, something you in your young age can not,> he said softly. Alex backed away a little, shuddering still from the memory.
