Navy walked from the arena, dressed like he was back when he still trained Pokemon for a living. But now, those days were over. His hair was dyed blue, and he wore a dark blue leather jacket. He used this getup because it was completely different from his normal appearance, so no one would pin him as a cop. He was here for fun.
But now, he was on his way out. Until he was cornered by two punks. One was tall, sort of wiry, with a long, bright blue mohawk, wearing just a denim vest, tight jeans, and biker boots. The other was shorter but stocky, his hair in short, red spikes. He wore a red muscle shirt and black shorts.
"Hey, blue guy." The tall one spoke. "I noticed you got those balls on your belt but don't use them. What'sa matter? Scared?"
"Move," was all Navy said.
"Whoa," the red one spoke. "You must not know who we are."
"Couple of assholes. You must not know who I am. Name's Navy."
"Oooh, Navy...you hear that, Cobalt? He's Navy..."
"I hear, Crimson. But too bad he's retired. He probably doesn't even HAVE it anymore. You know, if he is who he says he is..."
That did it for him, his thirst for the battle life was about to be quenched. And he was going to stomp a couple of punks in the meantime.
"Arena. Now. Both of you." He waited in the arena, staring them down. Sure it was just a chalked out circle on a parking lot, but it would do. They met him there.
"Two on two?" Navy nodded. "Let's wipe the floor with 'im, Crimson..."
Crimson sent out a Typhlosion, and Cobalt, a Machamp. At the same time, Navy sent out Zander, his black Charizard, and King, his Nidoking. Navy stared silently at the two, his Pokemon ready to go.
Some small gasps escaped those in the crowd who recognized the name.

Damia walked into the audience. She was wearing her armor, her hammer resting at her feet, her hand on the hilt. She liked coming to these battles because they were relaxing. Something different from the hum-drum of life. Plus, no one knew her name around the arenas. And those who did knew to shut up unless they wanted to spend the next few months eating through a straw--if they were lucky and the hammer only hit the jaw.
She sipped on a soda and crossed her legs, leaning forward. Navy. The name was being murmured through the crowd. She recognized it, but was pretty sure he was retired. Wasn't he? Hm...this was going to be more interesting than she first thought.

Alex leaned forward, interested. It had been a little while since he had heard the name, and from the murmurs in the crowd it sounded like Navy had retired. <Not that I keep track of that stuff,> he chuckled. <I just watch, laugh, and leave.> Still, if this guy was as good as he remembered, these two newbies would be in for quite the whipping, which Alex always found amusing.
Alex looked to his left when the woman clad in armor sat next to him. <Huh, I don't think I'd want a run in with that hammer of hers,> he said to himself. <Still, might make for some good conversation later...> He looked back to the arena, and craned his neck to see what would happen next.

The battle started, and despite the serious appearance, Navy was probably the most excited one in the area.
"Champ, Rock Throw Charizard!" "Typhlosion, Fire Blast on Nidoking!"
"Zander. Fly." Zander took flight, dodging the blow, and Nidoking--too slow to dodge-- took the fire blast, being engulfed in flames. When the smoke cleared, King was little more than pissed off.
"Earthquake." Nidoking shook the area with an earthquake, toppling both rival Pokemon, the closer bystanders risking being knocked on their backsides. Those farther away would feel small vibrations, but it wouldn't harm anyone, really. Then, the black Charizard dove in, taking down the Machamp. Just like that, it was over.
Navy called back his Pokemon, then was given a sack of coins as prize money. He walked over and gave it to a young girl who'd lost. He stood there, taking a breath.
"Guess who's back," he murmured quietly.

Dami smiled. "So...he's back. Not surprised those punks lost." She stood up, dragging her hammer behind her with one hand. She walked up to the edge of the ring. "Congratulations on your win, sir," she said with a nod.

Alex stared, dumbfounded for a moment. Then he burst out laughing. "Oh may, that was the best thrashing I've seen in a long time, and that's saying something!" he chuckled. He got up and sauntered down to the ring level. Seeing the man hand over the coins he'd earned to a young girl just gave him a better feeling about this guy.
"That was quite a treat to watch. You should get out here more often and whip some humility into the newbies," Alex said. "I can definitly say too often they need a whipping, and badly too."

Crimson and Cobalt stood, gawking at how their Pokemon were knocked out in about a minute, if that much. They called them back and ran off.
Navy chuckled softly at the two that approached him. "Thanks. GOD that felt good. Not just teaching a couple of punks a lesson, but...I forgot what it was like. Retired when it became illegal. But at a spur of the moment, I've decided that I'm coming back. Some things aren't for the law to say what's right and wrong. Just because it's illegal, doesn't make it wrong. And just because it's legal, doesn't mean it's right either."
He shook his head. "Well, you two seem to know me. To whom do I owe the honors?"

She smiled. "I only know you by reputation," she said. "I am Damia." She leaned against her hammer.

Alex paused for a second as the woman gave her name. <Name sounds familiar... Human mythology? Eh, whatever,> he thought. He nodded to Navy and extended a hand to him. "You can call me Alex," he smiled. "It's nice to see you back in action. I remember you getting ready to join the Elite ranks! It's a shame this all got outlawed, you were quite close..."
"So why did you decide to get back in the ring, if you don't mind me asking?" Alex asked curiously. "Usually, when someone retires, that's it for their career."

He nodded. "Nice to meet you, Damia." Then he looked at Alex. "Pleasure. Yeah, I was close. I could taste it...Well, I was younger then. I was deceived by the government into thinking 'illegal' meant wrong. So I stepped down."
He sighed. "For the years that followed, I always wanted back in on the action. I waited this long only because I was still debating. Those two clowns just gave me a reason to get back in the arena. It's gonna be a different climb to the top, but no problem. And of course I won't keep any profit off of it."

"I've found illegal is just a way for the government to try and tell us what to do." She smirked. "Plus, it's more fun to do what is illegal," she said with a laugh. She licked her lips. "Though at least you're not in it for the money." She didn't admit that money was the only reason she was a Shy Guy. Then again, she didn't plan on bringing that fact up either. But money was only so she could live.

Alex smiled but shook his head when Navy said he had thought illegal meant wrong "Deeming things as illegal has always been a way to control the masses," he sighed. "It's a typical ploy by a government to stop something they don't like."
Alex smiled when Damia made his point. "Agreed. Often, the illegal things are the best things. The only reason they're illegal is because the government fears they'll undermine their power," he chuckled. "And too often, all they do is encourage people to play. Which is quite ironic."

Navy nodded slowly. "I see that now. There are times when you personally have to draw your own line between right and wrong. For me, tonight was that time."
He thought for a moment. "Government tries to be controlling, not realizing that there's a such thing as too much government. Look at the kingdom, the soaring crime rate. Though, crime is simply defined as illegal. With all the laws, not all crime is bad. But it succeeds only in making the Kingdom look bad..."

Damia licked her lips. "But if government were to disappear completely, chaos would rule. Or the gods would descend upon the lands. Which would be just as bad, because Loki would thrive in that. So it is a necessary evil, when it does its work properly. But when it decides to make something as simple as a Pokemon battle illegal, it has too much power and needs to be cut down at the knees. Or smashed. Whichever you prefer."

"Therein lies the paradox of government," Alex chuckled. "It's necessary to instill order, but quite often it makes things more chaotic as well. Although this one seems to do a lot more of the latter lately. Still, as you said Damia, it is a necessary evil, one that every sort of civilization has had to live with"
Alex smiled and continued, "That's why it's nice to see you back in the ring Navy. You've finally confronted injustice. And quite a few don't have the courage to do that after that much time has passed.
