Tori's words hit him like a ton of bricks.
Snake was so shocked that he took a step back. He didn't expect Tori to have said something like that. After everything he had said, everything he had explained to her that lead to the decision... She was using that. That one sore spot that the both of them still had.
The one thing that Snake would never forget.
He felt like Tori had just pushed him into a corner. A corner where he would have to admit he was wrong. A corner where he would watch as he became forgotten. A corner where, in the end, his love just wasn't enough.
"I can't believe you would say that..." Snake choked. "You know why I... why I did what I did. It wasn't for any selfish, stupid reasons. It was for you. I wanted to help you... help you achieve your goals, OUR goals. And I... I realize now that what I did was wrong..."
"But you imply I'd do it again?" he asked, hurt. "I... How could you..." Snake was at a loss for words. He turned away from Tori and put a hand to his forehead. She thought he'd leave her again. After all of that, she really and truly thought he would leave again.
It broke his heart.

Tori had never been one to play tricks.
She hated the thought of using such a low blow to keep Snake beside her, but the thought of losing him... That made her feel even worse. She knew Snake would eventually forgive her if she took this route; she wasn't sure if she would ever get him back if she just...let him go.
"You thought leaving me would help me?" She asked, stepping forwards to regain the space that, just a moment again, had been lost. "You don't realize how badly I need people, do you? You don't realize how much I need to have someone near me, beside me."
Of course he didn't. Tori knew she had never showed anyone her weakness; she had never told a soul about her past. She hadn't wanted anyone else to consider her weak; she hadn't wanted their pity, or their sidelong glances. She had just wanted them to respect and trust her.
Because of that, she had always acted completely normal. Well... She had tried to act normal, anyways. But some things, such as her flinching and the way she craved loved, had slipped through the cracks. And the animals had noticed them. It was why she hadn't had to pull a trick on Fox.
Tori reached up, running her had through her hair again. "You're going to leave me, and I can't have that. You just don't understand how much that would kill me." Her voice was raw, open and vulnerable, "But, then again, you've never really tried to figure me out, have you? I bet you don't know a thing about me, other than the whispers littered throughout my gang."
Pulling her coat tighter around her, Tori moved towards the door.
"Come visit the guys sometimes. I'm sure Mike would love to fill you in on all you've missed."
Granted, even Michael didn't know everything about Tori, but he knew more than most. He, like Fox, knew she was damaged, but he didn't know how. He didn't know what had happened to her. Hell, not even Fox knew what was wrong with her.
She really had to remedy that...
